The person behind the plate
Hi, I'm the one who missed the flight for a bowl of noodles.
And I'd do it again.

The Roaming Plate started as a notebook. Scribbled recipes, restaurant addresses, market names, and the occasional sketch of a dish I couldn't stop thinking about. After a decade of travel and more meals than I can count, the notebook became a blog.
I believe that food is the fastest way into a culture. Before you understand the language, the history, or the politics, you can sit down at a table and understand something true about a place. A bowl of pho in Hanoi, a plate of injera in Addis Ababa, a taco from a cart in Mexico City — these are not just meals. They are introductions.
I've eaten in 40+ countries, taken more overnight trains than I care to admit, and once spent three days in a small Sicilian town because the arancini were too good to leave. No regrets.

Slow down
The best experiences happen when you stop rushing. Stay an extra day. Take the long route. Eat the second dessert.
Eat local
Chain restaurants exist everywhere. The food that only exists in one place is the food worth travelling for.
Talk to strangers
The best restaurant recommendations always come from the person sitting next to you on the bus.
